Last week, we FINALLY headed over to the museum to see the Body Worlds 2 exhibit. I've been wanting to see Body Worlds since I first learned about it a year or two ago, but we were never in an area where it was being shown.
It's a whole showcase of real, preserved, human bodies (of people who requested to donate their bodies to this), by Gunther von Hagens. In the larger displays, the entire human body is intact (minus the skin). In smaller displays, he's deconstructed the body so you can get a view of how the body really fits together.
Hurray hurray! Tim and I used our college I.D.'s to get the college discount, and walked through the exhibit. Tim was quite apprehensive at first, but became intrigued and impressed. (The only part where he felt slightly queezy was when we saw the blood vessel displays... apparently, Hagens somehow pumped red plastic through the donator's veins, which became the form of the "sculpture".)
I really enjoyed seeing the embryos and fetuses... There was one display of a pregnant lady with a fetus inside her. VERY cool and interesting. One day, I'd love to see the first Body Worlds exhibit (where animals are also "preserved").
